Doing Online Language Courses the RIGHT Way

Photo by flaaaUniversity of North Carolina at Chapel Hill gained a lot of attention last year when they announced they were only going to teach entry-level language courses on the Web. While I’m a firm believer that online courses are a great choice, there are quite a few reasons I don’t believe this was the smartest move. One that particularly stands out is that many entry-level freshman lack the time-management skills and navigation instincts for a learning management system. Though I’m not sure how much training went into training both the faculty and students in these classes, I can fully understand why the instructors decided to go hybrid. Continue reading

As an educationist who is currently focusing on DIY learning, I believe we need a radically different approach to crediting learning that occurs in our daily lives. Informal, low-cost learning can play a huge role in developing human capital, communities, and businesses and I love to connect with those who share my passion.
